What TopGum Was Facing
TopGum was managing B2B food manufacturing orders, raw material procurement, and retailer delivery scheduling across a combination of a generic wholesale ERP and manual Excel tracking. UK food sector compliance requirements — traceability, allergen documentation, shelf-life management — could not be modelled in the off-the-shelf system without costly customisation that the vendor could not support within regulatory timescales. Every FSA audit required significant manual effort to produce the traceability documentation that should have been automated.
The Solution
What We Built
We built a bespoke supply chain platform where UK food sector compliance was a first-class architectural concern — lot traceability from raw ingredient to finished product, automated allergen declaration generation, shelf-life calculation integrated with production scheduling, and retailer-specific EDI formatting for order submission and delivery confirmation. The system connected directly to the existing accounting package and replaced the Excel tracking that had been the source of most compliance gaps.
