What Mixmatch Color Was Facing
Mixmatch Color was serving London interior designers and paint retailers who needed accurate colour matching across hundreds of paint brands, fabric swatches, and material finishes — a task that generic colour picker tools and standard Adobe colour libraries were entirely unfit to perform. The colour science required to match across different substrates, lighting conditions, and finish types is specialised, and no off-the-shelf tool modelled it correctly. Interior designers were losing billable hours to manual colour reconciliation that should have been instant.
The Solution
What We Built
We built a bespoke AI colour matching platform trained on a proprietary dataset of material colours under controlled and variable lighting conditions. The matching engine modelled substrate and finish type as variables — a matte emulsion and a silk fabric sharing the same RGB value are not the same colour under London daylight. The platform integrated with supplier catalogues from twelve major UK paint and material brands, returning ranked matches with delta-E accuracy scores and in-stock availability from London trade suppliers.
